HONOLULU -

A man and a teenage girl died at the scene of an early Sunday morning crash on the Pali Highway, according to the medical examiner.  A second teenage girl was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.

Police say the driver of a truck was Kailua-bound, when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the highway, and crashed into a tree near the Honolulu side of the Nuuanu-Pali tunnel.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, along with a teenage girl who was a passenger in the truck.   The second teenage girl was taken to a local trauma center in critical condition.

No other vehicles were involved.

Investigators believe speed may be a factor.  It has not been determined if alcohol played a part in the crash.

Pali Highway in both directions was closed for more than four hours while police investigated.
