Big Island fire officials say a fire that destroyed a house in Honokaa left one person dead overnight.
The fire started at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at a single-story home on Kahana Drive near Old Mamalahoa Highway.
Fire crews had the flames under control in about an hour. The fire was extinguished by 3:45 a.m.
Fire officials say the house was estimated at $300,000.
At least two people lived in the home. The American Red Cross responded to help with food, clothing and shelter.
An investigation is underway to determine how the fire started.
