The Hawaii County Fire Department said a woman died and a man was hospitalized after motorcycle crash in North Hawaii Monday.
Crews were called at around 10:45 a.m. to the Akoni Pule Highway near Pololu Valley Lookout. Officials say the husband and wife from Utah were leaving the lookout. About a half mile away on the winding road, the man lost control of the motorcycle and drove off the road, according to fire officials.
The motorcycle, with both the man and woman, tumbled 80 feet down a steep embankment, according to the fire officials.
The woman, 32, died at the scene. The man, 35, was airlifted from the scene and transported to the North Hawaii Community Hospital with leg and back injuries.
