Experts say those are honeymooners--people traveling to get married--and even those travelling for conventions. Hospitality Advisors say Statewide hotel occupancy went up 6 percentage points for the month of May. Those staying at the hotels had to pay for pricier rooms. And average room rates climbed to around 218 dollars per day. This rate set a new high for the month of may. Those prices along with the strong demand led to a new May record of 390 million dollars in total hotel revenue. There are an increase of visitors according to the Hawaii tourism Authority from the East Coast, Japan and Canada. BUT---Despite an increase in visitor arrivals to Oahu... people are not staying for as long as they used to. So occupancy numbers remained flat here compared to last year. These numbers are determined by a survey conducted by Hospitality Advisors.
