A SECOND CHANCE FOR A CONTROVERSIAL NEBRASKA LAW. IT WOULD ALLOW YOUR KIDS' TEACHERS AND SCHOOL STAFF TO CARRY GUNS --IF PROPERLY TRAINED..AND IF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT GIVES THE OK. A SIMILAR BILL, WITH FEWER RESTRICTIONS FAILED THREE YEARS AGO -- SUPPORTERS HOPE THIS TIME IT'S DIFFERENT. KETV NEWSWATCH SEVEN'S ADRIAN WHITSETT JOINS US LIVE. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS? -- THE HEAD OF NEBRASKA'S FIREARMS OWNER'S ASSOCIATION SAYS IT PROVES A POINT ... IT'S THE INTENTION OF A SHOOTER- GOOD OR BAD THAT CAUSES US TO LOOK AT GUNS A CERTAIN WAY. WHEN IT COMES TO KIDS --A SCHOOL áWITHOUT GUNS, BECOMES AN EASY TARGET. RIGHT ABOVE 50TH AND DODGE -- YOU MAY'VE SEEN THIS ON YOUR DAILY DRIVE.(Rod Moeller: "It was something that we wanted to bring to Nebraska but we wanted to put our own twist on it.") A NATIONAL GUN CAMPAIGN --WITH A FOCUS ON NEBRASKA FIREARM OWNERS. ROD MOELLER IS THEIR PRESIDENT. (Rod Moeller: "The mere presence of a gun, frequently stops a crime. Without it actually being used.") THAT'S WHY MOELLER SUPPORTS STATE SENATOR MARK CHRISTENSEN'S PROPOSED BILL TO TRAIN TEACHERS .. AND ALLOW GUNS IN THE áCLASSROOM. (Rod Moeller: "If something horrific were to happen in one of our schools, the sooner we can stop that act the fewer lives will be lost.") AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, NOT EVERYONE AGREES.(Steve Horn: "Most of the teachers I know are appalled at the idea of arming teachers.") STEVE HORN, A FORMER TEACHER - AND ARMY VET THINKS THESE WORDS...JUST AREN'T TRUE.. AND WHEN YOU'RE TALKING PUTTING GUNS IN CLASS.(Steve Horn: "When policemen make mistakes and shoot people accidentally, when military shoot people accidentally, I don't think a school is a good place for somebody to be carrying a firearm.") THE MILLARD PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS NO STANDING POSITION ON THE ISSUE. OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS SAYS SECURITY SHOULD BE A HIGHEST PRIORITY AND THEY WOULD LIKE THE LEGISLATURE TO FUND FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS.AND S-R-O TRAINING. BUT QUOTE "Teachers carrying concealed weapons would not be an appropriate legislative solution." ROD MOELLER SAYS áALL DISTRICTS SHOULD HAVE THE CHOICE.(Rod Moeller: "We're putting our children at risk by not giving them the security to keep them safe.") ROD MOELLER SAYS HE AND OTHERS WITH N-F-O-A HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL PLANNED AT THE STATE CAPITOL TOMORROW MORNING AROUND 11. THEN HE PLANS TO GIVE TESTIMONY IN FRONT OF THE JUDICARY COMMITTEE IN SUPPORT OF THE BILL. MOELLER WON'T BE SURPRISED IF IT DOESN'T PASS -- BUT HE'LL PUSH FOR IT AND BELIEVES SOMEDAY , SCHOOLS WILL GET THE CHOICE. BACK TO YOU.
