Here in on North Hotel ...merchants deal with them everyday. Alfred 34:18 "I THINK IT'S PRETTY BAD." 34:20 And it's getting even worse...that's according to the City's latest ''point in time count'' which includes a one- day count of sheltered homeless -- and 7-day count of unsheltered homeless on Oahu. The number for 20-14...a total of 47-hundred...that's up 30 percent. Kwock 23:42 "IT'S ACTUALLY A CAT AND MOUSE. IT GOES ON, THE SAME POPULATION. INCREASE POPULATION OF HOMELESS PEOPLE BUT WE DON'T HAVE SOLUTIONS." 23:49 Ashley Standup 23:03 "COMMUNITY LEADERS SAY THE HOMELESS SLEEP ON THE STREET AT NIGHT BUT DURING THE DAY THEY MOVE TO A PRIVATE AREA LIKE THIS PARK ON SMITH AND BERETANIA SO THAT THE PUBLIC DOESN'T REALLY SEE THE ISSUE." 23:14 25:58 "VERY FEW PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY KIND OF GIVE UP. BECAUSE THEY SAY WITH ALL THE SMART PEOPLE IN ELECTED OFFICE...IF THEY CAN'T SOLVE IT...WHO AM I TO SOLVE IT?" 26:08 They say they know the problem can't be solved overnight... but some are pressuring city officials to help with solutions. The Chinatown Business and Community Association will continue to pressure the City to install public bathrooms to keep the homeless from using the street.
