A local entertainer and many businesses are offering free items to storm-ravaged Big Island residents.
L&L Hawaiian Barbecue
On Friday, L & L Hawaiian Barbecue will give back to the victims of Tropical Storm Iselle by offering a free plate lunch and cold drink to the first 500 people in line.
The giveaway runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pahoa location.
Weary residents will be able to select from homemade kalua pork and cabbage or hearty hamburger steak with gravy.
Comedian Augie T says he will perform a free comedy show for Puna residents on Thursday.
The comedian wanted to take the opportunity to help those affected by the aftermath of Iselle and to help lift their spirits.
The free comedy show will be held at Maku'u Farmers Market at 6 p.m.
Grocery store chain Safeway will send over 16 tons of ice to the Puna district. The donation will be distributed through the Red Cross aid station at the Pahoa Community Center Thursday.
Ice is expected to arrive by 2 p.m.
Earlier this week, the company sent a truck containing a container of ice from its Kailua-Kona store to Hilo.
Hawaiian Airlines and Hawaiian Isles Water Company
Hawaiian Isles is providing 360 cases of bottled water to Big Island residents affected by Tropical Storm Iselle.
Hawaiian Airlines will fly the bottled water to Hilo at no charge Wednesday as space is available.
Hawaii Foodservice Alliance
Hawaii Foodservice Alliance is sending 20,000 pounds of ice, hundreds of loaves of bread and 2,400 cartons of eggs to hard-struck Puna.
Local tour company KaphoKine Adventures emptied its Kona and Hilo warehouses' ice and water supply and delivered to the Pahoa distribution point.
The company was also able to get additional donations from Norwegian Cruise Line of 5,000 pounds of ice and 50 box lunches and transportation from Harper Car & Truck Rental to deliver those goods to residents of Puna.
