Eight years after he was accused of raping a Maui woman, a taxi cab driver is sentenced for his crime.
54-year-old David Fleming of Kihei was found guilty of first-degree sexual assault for the 2006 incident.
According to prosecutors, the 24-year-old victim left a bar after a night of drinking and took Fleming's taxi home. Once she paid, they said Fleming got out of the car and assaulted her.
Sentencing was delayed for more than four years after Fleming was found mentally unfit for sentencing, but that changed in May after treatment at the Hawaii State Hospital.
The judge handed down the maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.
