And a Hau'ula father was injured when an early morning fire destroyed a home, a heartbreaking loss for a family of ten. KITV 4's Cam Tran reports on the drastic measures to get everyone out safely. 20 47 102 By dawn's light this Hauula family could see the extent of the devastation: the kitchen a charred mess, the garage roof caved in and black soot covers the area they called home. The family of ten was sleeping in this Kawaipuna Street house when the flames broke out around 5:30 this morning. Her grandchildren woke her up after they heard the crackling and saw the flames from their bedroom window. Another neighbor Ocean Tuia says he heard some of the family's cry for help OCEAN TUIA, NEIGHBOR, 19:50 THEY WERE YELLING OUT OUR NAMES MY DAD'S A BISHOP SO THEY WERE TRYING TO CALL HIM TO COME OUT AND THERE'S A FIRE WHEN WE GOT OUT HERE HE JUST RAN TO THEM TO SEE WHAT THEY NEEDED HELP WITH 20:03 STANDUP BRIDGE:CAM TRAN 17:18 NEXT DOOR NEIGHBORS TOLD US THE RESIDENTS COULDN'T GET OUT THE FRONT WAY SO KNOCKED OUT THIS HUGE HOLE IN THE BACK FENCE SO THEY COULD GET OUT THROUGH THE BACKYARD 17:24 OCEAN TUIA, 18:51 THE SON BROKE THE FENCE IN THE BACK HE JUST RAN THROUGH IT SO HE COULD GET EVERYONE OUT BECAUSE THE PARENTS ARE KIND OF OLDER SO THEY COULDN'T JUST JUMP THE WALL 18:59 The seven adults and three children inside made it out safety. Outside, the family too sadden to talk on camera, told us their father, did suffer some burns on his arm. He refused treatment and is doing ok. PASI 11:20 I AM JUST HAPPY EVERY BODY IS ALIVE AND ALL GOOD SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF THE HOUSE, THAT'S A REPLACEABLE MAIN THING IS PEOPLE ARE ALIVE 11:29 The fire department has not determined a cause but say the fire doesn't look suspicious. Investigators say the house is total loss and estimate the damage at 400 thousand dollars. Reporting from HAuua, CT KITV4 News. The American Red Cross says the family is staying with friends and family. Neighbors reported hearing loud crackling and and explosion possibility from propane. However investigators are still looking into the cause.
