(CNN) -

"Walking Dead" fans were looking forward to the introduction of Tyreese on Sunday night's episode, and so far actor Chad Coleman seems to have knocked it out of the park as the leader of another group of survivors.

Coleman spoke to reporters earlier this week about what it's like being the new guy on the set of the hit series, which just happens to be filled with zombie extras.

"The zombies are so real, so it's really no acting required, you just see the amazing work that's being done ... It's just eerie," he said.

"The most eerie part of it is to see them just doing regular things, like going to lunch break - just to watch a guy getting the salad dressing, and he's all made up, all zombied out. It's pretty hilarious."

Of course, after Coleman's role on "The Wire," the inevitable comparisons would be made. But "The Walking Dead," he said, "is far more physical [than 'The Wire']. Even though I was training in the gym I still find myself more winded than I was on 'The Wire.' .... I'm not saying I'm out of shape, don't misread, but it's a lot more physical."

Coleman and the rest of the "Walking Dead" cast return on February 10.
