federal agent accused of murder lands him back on the witness stand! Christopher Deedy testified in his own defense today... He's charged in the shooting death of Kollin Elderts inside a Waikiki McDonalds.. KITV4's Brenton Awa was there for the testimony and joins us live.. This is day 11 of Christopher Deedys retrial. In the last trial, he didn't take the stand until day 18 so this go around is going a lot quicker than the last time but just as serious. Deedys family was there... So was the family of kollin elderts... Both sides watching intently. Deedy had about two hours on the box before the day wrapped up. He recounted what happened the night that he shot Kollin elderts in a waikiki McDonald's. The federal agent says elderts seemed drunk when he came into the restaurant. He says Elderts was causing problems for other customers -- even calling one out to fight. He says its part of his job to get involved in these types of situations. Deedy says elderts eventually called him out as well. In court today he demonstrated how he says he showed his badge and told elderts he was an agent. He assumed that would help stop the situation from escalating. "WHAT WERE TRAINED IS IF YOU SEE SOMETHING THAT'S ESCALATING, YOU DON'T WAIT FOR IT TO GET WORSE. THEN YOU COULD SAY THAT YOU'VE FAILED IN YOUR DUTY AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER." Deedys time on the stand started off with a lot of background information about the rules of his job. One of those he said is that agents CAN drink alcohol while carrying a weapon as long as they're NOT under-the- influence. Deedy says he drank no more than 3 and a half beers over the course of that night. So far it's been Deedys attorneys doing all the questioning, the prosecution hasn't had its chance yet but deedy is expected to be on the stand for two more days. This trial is expected to wrap up around the middle of next month. Live from circuit court I'm Brenton Awa for kitv4 news.
