A Circuit Court judge on Maui entered a judgement Wednesday in favor of the county which disqualifies Neldon Mamuad as a candidate for mayor.
Mamuad is the founder of the Facebook page MAUIWatch.
The ruling supports County Clerk Danny Mateo's preliminary decision to disqualify Mamuad based on an inquiry saying that he did not file a financial disclosure form concurrent with his nomination papers.
The Mamuad campaign has maintained this was miscommunication between the candidate and the clerk's office.
The campaign released sworn affidavits stating that Mamuad's pre-existing financial disclosures were approved by the clerk's office on two separate occasions to be used as part of his concurrent filing with his nomination papers.
"My campaign team and I are disappointed in the outcome, but mostly we're disappointed for the voters of Maui county who will now have one less choice in new leadership," said Mamuad.
Mamuad's attorney had no comment on whether an appeal the court's decision will be filed. Mamuad said he has not yet decided if he was pursue any political office in the future.
