Maui County fire crews were working on a fire at the HMF construction site in Kahului Thursday morning.
Fire crews were dispatched at 9:14 a.m. to the old Maui Land and Pine cannery near HFM behind Foodland. Police closed Kane Street and Kamehameha Avenue.
Fire officials say about 3,000 square feet of construction material was on fire with an office trailer exposed to the flames.
A 35-year-old construction worker was injured while attempting to control the fire before crews arrived on the scene. He was treated for shortness of breath due to smoke inhalation.
Kane Street was closed from Kamehameha Avenue to the entrance of Foodland.
The fire was extinguished at 11:30 a.m. The road was reopened at 11:45 a.m.
Damage was estimated at $210,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
