Tragedy averted. Good evening. I'm Pamela Young. 8 people, rescued from the Kaiwi Channel during a kayak escort excursion today... say preparation made the all the difference. KITV4 has dramatic video of the rescue. 1 24 103 The 4 teens and 4 adults were about 12 miles west of Moloka'i when their 21-foot recreational vehicle started taking on water. Kayaks on board were tied together as a flotation device. An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon automatically activated when the vessel sunk. COASTGUARD. The Reeves said the Coast Guard crew members are the heroes who put their lives on the line every day. Coast Guard officers say the rescued party had lifejackets, the Emergency Position Beacon and a VHF radio ...which all facilitated a speedy rescue.
