Kauai police have identified the man who was found dead in Kalalau Valley Thursday as Daniel Foster, 31, of Frisco, Texas.
Monday's autopsy indicates that Foster died of injuries consistent with a fall from a height.
Witnesses reported that Foster was camping near Kalalau Beach last week when he set off on a hike with a fellow camper on Tuesday. The friend stated that he turned around when the terrain became too steep and dangerous, but Foster continued on.
The friend, a male visitor from Kirkland, Wash., reported Foster missing on Thursday morning when he didn’t return to the campsite.
Rescue crews conducted an aerial search of the valley that afternoon. They located a man's body deep in the valley at around 1:30 p.m. and notified police.
An autopsy confirmed that foul play was not a factor in Foster's death.
