storm track bring it to the islands by SUNDAY... very similar track to Iselle....2 potentially big rain events coming in only days a part from Late breaking tonight... The school closings have started ... Let's get right to KITV4's Paul Drewes with the closings just announced on four different islands! Just about 45 minutes ago, The Department of Education released the schools that will be closed because of Hurricane Iselle. While students on Oahu and Kauai will have class on Thursday, all public schools on the Big Island and Maui County will be closed. That will affect about 45,000 students. Many of the schools that will be closed are emergency shelters Eleven of those are on the Big Island. Those will close at 2 p.m. On Wednesday, so emergency personnel can prepare for the storm. That means all afterschool activities for students and staff are canceled at these schools, as well as any scheduled public meetings. Those schools in Hawaii and Maui Counties that are designated emergency shelters will also remain closed on Friday. Here on Oahu, we talked with the city spokesman who said a decision on which emergency shelters will be opened -- and what schools will be closed will be made early tomorrow morning.
