A Big Island man is in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times.
South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report of a stabbing off Keaukaha Road near Four Mile Beach Park. Upon arrival, they learned that a 41-year-old Hilo man had sustained multiple stab wounds to the back during an altercation with another man.
The victim was en route to the hospital in a private vehicle until it came upon responding Fire Department rescue personnel. The victim was then transported to Hilo Medical Hospital in critical condition.
Officers say they have arrested 46-year-old Paul Gibson of Ocean View in connection with the crime. He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, third-degree assault, two counts of terroristic threatening, five firearms offenses, resisting an order to stop and failure to provide a DNA sample.
Gibson was located six minutes after the incident on Laukapu Street in Hilo.
Gibson's bail was set at $374,000. He remains at police custody until his initial court appearance Tuesday.
