A 32-year-old Big Island man was arrested on a Grand Jury indictment for attempted murder and other offenses Monday.
Gilbert H. Waiau faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, attempted first-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening and second-degree criminal property damage.
The charges stem from an incident on April 30, 2013 where Puna patrol officers responded to a report of a possible domestic dispute on the roadway.
The report claimed that Waiau followed a 23-year-old woman in his car and tried to run her off the road. Then he intentionally hit her car with his car. When she got out of her car, he reportedly attempted to ram her with his car.
The incident happened near the intersection of Kahakai Boulevard and Puni Mauka Loop.
Waiau remains in police custody. His bail has been set at $85,000.
