WORKS OF ART. ITS CALLED "GUNS IN THE HANDS OF ARTISTS" AND IT TOOK A LOT OF HARD WORK AND CONVINCING TO GET THE PROJECT GOING. A LOCAL ARTIST, SUPPORTERS AND THE NOPD JOINED FORCES TO MAKE THE ART IDEA A REALITY. THE GOAL: TO RAISE AWARENESS AND STOP GUN VIOLENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY. MY STORY IS ALL NEW AT SIX YOU ARE LOOKING AT 186 GUNS THAT WERE COLLECTED BY NEW OREANS OFFICERS... DURING THE GUN BUY BACK PROGRAM. 3:03:50 painstakingly over 18 months worked with city council mayors to get access to these guns 56 BUT TAKE A CLOSER LOOK. YOU CAN SEE THEY HAVE BEEN STRIPPED, WELDED AND TAKEN APART CAREFULLY AND ON PURPOSE. THE REASON... 3:04:00-03 they are now being distributed to artists to make art work. 31 ARTISTS TO BE EXACT. THEY'VE BEEN GIVEN THE TASK OF CREATING A MASTER PIECE..FROM A PIECE THAT WAS ONCE USED WITH ILL INTENT. 3:11:02 ITS horrible how people were treated with these guns....but you see it's a circle, man a cycle.. A CYCLE ARTIST JOHN BARNES IS READY TO CHANGE. 3:11:20 asthetically im feeling this piece right here. This is amazing. HE AND THE OTHER ARTISTS...WILL BRING THEIR VISION OF HOPE, PEACE AND A LESS VIOLENT COMMUNITY TO LIFE. to stimulate thought, words that stimulate action. ALL CREATIONS FROM SCULpTORS, POETS, PAINTERS AND FILMMAKERS.. WILL BE PART OF THE "GUNS IN THE HANDS OF ARTISTS EXHIBIT" THAT WILL OPEN WITH PROSPECT 3 IN OCTOBER. AND THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME...THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN AROUND. 3:04:13 18 years ago when murder rate was high at 400...we did this project in lower garden district and 18-years later guns are still an issue. WHICH IS WHY CITY LEADERS BACK ARE BACKING THE PEACFUL PRESENTATION. 3:09: 06 taking the emotion out of it and looking at guns as art ..to start broader discussion about what's appropriate what is okay. SO AGAIN, THE ARTISTS WILL DISPLAY THEIR FINAL CREATIONS AT THE JONATHAN FERRARA GALLERY DURING PROSPECT 3 AND WILL BE ON DISPLAY THROUGH JANUARY.
