public housing be allowed to smoke inside? The majority of Hawaii state lawmakers don't think so. The state House passed a bill today that would ban smoking in public housing. Under the bill- all new leases and permits for public housing MUST state that smoking is prohibited. If a tenant violates the rule, he or she could be evicted. On our facebook page tonight, Keri Flores writes, "You deserve to be thrown out if you choose smoking over your housing. priorities, people!" Pam N Richard Chatham says, "If they can afford cigarettes, they can afford to pay for housing!!!" But Lisa Kehmeier argues, "Smoking is a coping skill that for some is very hard to kick. Smoking is a sign of stress and smoking helps to calm. Not supporting it but it is what it is." The bill was already approved by the Senate- but now the chambers must agree on the amendments before it heads to the Governor for his signature. In the meantime, we want to know what you think, so head to facebook and weigh in.
