Trends & Talkers: Man meddles with Monk sealUPDATED 8:36 PM HST May 14, 2014Video Transcript
Meddling with a monk seal - that video has you talking tonight. Yesterday we showed you this video from Civil Beat of a man on Diamond Head Beach apparently leaning down to pet the endangered animals when it quickly rolls over and startles him. According to the photographer, others took pictures just feet from the seal's face and one child was nearly bitten when he laid down beside the seal and put his arm around it. On facebook, Laurie Fukumoto-Padgett writes, "Good for him, he should have gotten bit." Kimberly Windham Matthews wants to know, "Why didn't they educate instead of tape? Seriously! Was it more important to watch this and film it from a distance than to approach them and teach these people about the Monk seal?" And Linda Mahelona adds, "This person just broke the LAW and it's on video so what's gonna happen? NOTHING. That's why it continues." We want to remind you that that monk seals are an endangered species and it's illegal to disturb or harm them. Violations can result in fines as high as $50,000 and carry a year in prison. We want to know what what you think of the video. Head to facebook and weigh in. Paula?
