Trends & Talkers: Homeless TreehouseUPDATED 8:00 PM HST May 01, 2014Video Transcript
PAUSE FOR MUSIC Some homeless men's creative housing solution has a lot of you talking tonight. Yesterday, we showed you this tree house, held up by only THREE nails and tree limbs, but the men say it's safer than being on the streets. The department of transportation spotted the structure and posted a notice to vacate within 7 days. They say it's illegal to do any work OR build anything within the state DOT right of way without a permit. Lots of mixed opinions on this one. On facebook, Jerome Costa writes, "Cut down the tree , these homeless people are just a pain there's a lot of jobs and programs that helps them , but they just too lazy." Eva Marie Arconado-Mirzai counters, "I wished more people in the island are more compassionate, forgiving and peaceful. Do something about it and not belittle them. One day you could be in their shoes." And Olaf Tollefsen cautions, "Wait until one of their tree structures falls, someone gets hurt, and then they sue the city for liability." We want to know what you think of the tree house - creative solution or dangerous eyesore? Head to facebook and let us know. Paula?
