Yunji this place is packed -- theres tents lining the beach -- tons of people all around -- 50- thousand of them are expected to take part in the ceremony this year... The weathers cooperating... and just off to my right is the main stage where the Makaha Sons are about to perform. Every year this event gives people a chance to remember their loved ones that have passed away. It's an opportunity to maybe send that person a message that you never had the chance to do and it's done by way of these floating lanterns. "IT'S SPECIAL, EMOTIONAL, ALL THAT FEELINGS... ...CLOSER TO HER." "THIS IS MY FIRST TIME DOING IT... ...WHEN I RELEASE MINE TONIGHT." About 6-thousand candle lit lanterns will be set afloat in just about an hour. Those lanterns were given out on a first come first serve basis -- that started this morning a 10 o'clock. There was already a crowd on hand then as well. All of the lanterns will get picked back out of the ocean when the nights through. The ceremony is expected to wrap up around 730. We'll be here and we'll bring you more throughout the show. Live at Ala Moana beach -- bawa kitv4 news.
