Local bikers say ... a new bike path along South King Street -- would make people feel SAFER on the roads. The protected lane would start on A-LA-PAI Street and run to the University area. During peak traffic hours-- cars would not be able to park along King Street -- opening up an extra lane for traffic. 3:04:30-3:04:45: "STUDY'S HAVE SHOWN THAT 60 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL POPULATION WILL FEEL COMFORTABLE TO BIKE WHEN THERE IS A PROTECTED LANE SO THAT'S THE WAY WE CAN GET LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE TO BIKE. WHEN THAT HAPPENS THEN MORE PEOPLE WILL DO IT AND EVERY ONE WILL FEEL SAFER. The transportation department says -- the project's expense -- would only be the cost of paint.
