Now-- as KITV4's Nana Ohkawa tells us ....2 year old Chavayo Hamala is on the tail end of his path to recovery . Chavayo fractured his skull---his brain was swollen-- and he had cuts and bruises.. But now-- he's almost back to being the boy he was ---recovering from todays skull surgery. It's a BIG day this little fellow. Cheveyo just turned two... And celebrated in an unusual way... Getting bone surgery at Kaiser Permanente. He earned this peaceful nap in his mother's arms... It's a moment Aymara Kirby cherishes... Because there have been days when she thought this might not be possible. 1038 8 MONTHS AGO I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS GOING TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH HIM OR EASTER OR NEW YEARS SO ITS PRETTY SPECIAL 1040 8 months ago Cheveyo fell TWO stories-- of his Aunt Kathy Koester's window. Kirby had pneumonia-- so Koester was babysitting. Koester says she turned away for a second... Enough time for Cheveyo to climb up the couch, onto the window sill and through the screen--only his feet were left hanging on. She ran to get him but it was too late. 206I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT I SAID OTHER THAN I GOT TO CALL MY SISTER WHAT AM I GOING TO TELL MY SISTER HE SAID I KEPT SAYING OVER AND OVER 13 Doctors warned Kirby her boy's recovery didn't look promising. 923 HE MIGHT NEED SHUNTS ON ARMS AND LEGS HE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO WALK HE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TALK THEY DON'T KNOW THE OUTCOME 933 945 THEY ALL CALL HIM A MIRACLE BABY HE'S BASICALLY NORMAL BUT I THINK HE'S ACTUALLY SMARTER 53 Now-- he's going to the zoo- -- walking --and starting to talk. Aunt Koester has made adjustments to the house. She says you can never be safe enough. 432 THERE ARE LOCKS ON THE WINDOWS AND THEY HAVE HEAVY DUTY LOCKS WHERE I CAN PUT A LOT OF PRESSURE AND ITS NOT GOING TO POP OUT 44 20 DEF I THINK SOMETHING LIKE THIS MAKES OR BREAKS A FAMILY I THINK ITS MADE ALL OF US EVEN HIS DAD REALLY CLOSE BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED 27 .
