Keehi Lagoon boaters learn of tsunami advisoryUPDATED 11:20 PM HST Apr 01, 2014Video Transcript
KITV4 went to Keehi Lagoon to check on boaters after the advisory was issued. Many of them heard the reports, but not all boaters were aware of this advisory. This is the same spot where the 2011 Japan earthquake damaged nearly 200 boats. "I AM TOTALLY UNAWARE" "THERE WAS A LOT OF DAMAGE, PIERS CAME APART BUT HOPEFULLY THEY FIX THAT WITH THE NEW PIERS." ANDY WEIGLE "HEARD ABOUT THE EARTHQUAKE, DON'T THINK IT WILL BE A BIG DEAL BUT IF IT IS WE CAN ALWAYS TAKE THE BOATS OUT. EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE, ITS IMPORTANT TO KEEP AN EAR OUT THOUGH ABOUT THESE TYPES OF THINGS." Even though this advisory isn't expected to pose a major risk on shore-- boaters and swimmers should still be aware and take precaution throughout the night.
