his patients wound up in a coma JUST lost his medical license... Good evening, I'm Paula Akana. And I'm Yunji de Nies. Dr. John Stover is also expected to lose his dentistry license soon... KITV4's Andrew Pereira... with the Dentist's deal... It's our top story. 25-30 One former patient's in a coma. Dozens of others are filing complaints .. And when the case went before the Hawaii Medical Board... Doctor John Stover's medical license was gone in less than an hour. DR. DANNY TAKANISHI: "THE VOTE WAS SEVEN IN FAVOR WITH ONE ABSTENTION." Stover received his license in July, 2001. But after reaching a voluntary agreement with the medical board, he'll never again practice medicine in Hawaii. BRENT SUYAMA: "IT ENDS HIS PRACTICE AT THIS POINT. THEORITCALLY THERE COULD HAVE BEEN FINES AS WELL, BUT THAT COULD HAVE DRAWN OUT THE PROCESS." The document agreed to by both the Medical Board and Stover highlights six instances of professional misconduct or negligence. But according to the Regulated Industries Complaints Office, there are now 27 grievances against Stover. In one of those cases, 24-year- old Kristen Tavares fell into a coma after having wisdom teeth pulled by Stover March 17. Tavares' father spoke to KITV4 last month. JOEY TAVARES: "I LOVE HER SO MUCH, AND I JUST WISH SHE WOULD COME BACK." Revocation of Stover's medical license now goes into a national database. BRENT SUYAMA: "IT WOULD MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO GET A LICENSE IN ANOTHER STATE AT THIS POINT." Stover has voluntarily closed his three offices on the Big Island, which operated as Cosmetic Centers of Hawaii. The Board of Dental Examiners is scheduled to take up revocation of Stover's dentistry license May 19. BRENT SUYAMA: "I CAN'T SPEAK FOR THAT BOARD BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T MET YET, BUT THEY WILL BE PROVIDED WITH THE SAME FACTS THAT THE MEDICAL BOARD HAD TODAY." Stover's attorney did not return our phone call today seeking comment. The state Attorney General's office says there is no active investigation against Stover, however the Hawaii County Prosecutor's office said there's several agencies looking into Stover's activities. The Tavares family has also filed a civil lawsuit against him.
