With new handi-vans on the way, the city is cracking down on riders who chronically miss their pickups. In one month, according to city stats, 47 Handi-Van customers had 10 or more no- shows, adding up to 748 wasted rides. One person called and made a reservation but didn't show up...47 times! There is also a problem with chronic late cancellers - people who cancel after the the van has already started its pickup run. ROGER@12:47 "PEOPLE WHO AT THE LAST MINUTE CANCEL A RIDE - THAT TAKES RIDES AWAY FROM OTHERS, SO WE'VE IMPLEMENTED A PLAN TO TRY AND CONTROL THAT" The city will now send out a letters to riders, letting them know when they've had 3 or more no-shows or late cancellations in a month, the rider could be suspended from using the service. Each Handi-Van trip costs about 36-dollars, so cutting down on no-shows COULD save the city tens of thousands of dollars.
