The early bird get the spot! Keep that in mind if you plan on going to Ala Moana Beach Park this Friday for the Fourth. For those who get there early, rules ARE in place. KITV4's Andrew Pereira gives shows us what you need to know. 08 33 It's Hawaii's holiday land rush... staking a claim at Ala Moana Beach Park for America's birthday bash, can be a challenge. BOBBY WEN: "IT'S BEEN PRETTY CRAZY. PARKING WAS CRAZY, JUST FINDING A SPOT WAS MORE NUTS, EVERYTHING'S LIKE EVERYBODY CARVES UP THEIR LITTLE TERRITORY." For the past several years, the city has put rules in place to make the fireworks celebration at Ala Moana just a little bit more orderly. The park is normally closed from 10 p-m until 4 a-m every day, but just for the Fourth the city will allow one canopy and up to two people to remain overnight at each campsite, starting Thursday. MICHELLE NEKOTA: "AND IT'S ONLY TWO PER CANOPY, BUT THEY CAN GO AHEAD AND SAVE THEMSELVES A SPOT." Bobby Wen busted out the grill before the Fourth and doesn't think the rules are fair to those who don't have a large ohana, or work long hours. BOBBY WEN: "SOME PEOPLE HAVE WORK; THEIR FAMILY TO TAKE CARE OF AND THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO. SO, I THINK IT'S FAIR OPENING IN THE MORNING WHERE EVERYONE HAS THEIR CHANCE TO GET IN." There are certain prohibitions at Ala Moana Independence Day revelers must follow, and in years past, Honolulu Police has patrolled the park with undercover officers. MICHELLE NEKOTA: "THERE'S NO TENTS ALLOWED DURING THAT TIME, JUST CANOPIES, AS WELL AS NO FIREWORKS AND NO ANIMALS, AND NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES." And of course, parking is always an issue. The Convention Center is offering more than 500 stalls on the Fourth at $10 per vehicle. For Wen, it's all a bit too much. He plans on celebrating the Fourth at home, not at Oahu's most popular beach park. BOBBY WEN: "SOMETIMES NOT WORTH IT -- IT'S JUST TOO CRAZY." Andrew Pereira KITV4 News. The 23rd annual fireworks spectacular at Ala Moana Beach Park is scheduled to start at 8:30 p-m.
