Al Gore took center stage in Manoa tonight and was fired up to share his message. KITV4's Brenton Awa reports. NATS "Aloha, Aloha, Aloha." Al Gore took the stage before a crowd of thousands at the Stan Sheriff Center, here to listen to his thoughts on climate change. One of the former Vice President's first tasks --- getting people to understand what's at stake. 3:46 - 4:01 "OUR WAY OF LIFE IS AT STAKE, OUR GRANDCHILDR EN ARE AT STAKE, THE FUTURE OF CIVILIZATION IS AT STAKE... ...BUT TELL PEOPLE WHAT IS AT STAKE." The nobel peace prize The nobel peace prize winner says he learned of climate change right here in Hawaii... And is back to give hope in the battle against it. The former congressman from Tennessee went on to talk about the effects he says we'll feel and see. Like having some of the hottest current days on record become the norm -- coral reefs being destroyed -- and ecosystems being wiped out. 00:10 - 00:20 "SO HERE IN HAWAII DEPENDING ON WHETHER YOU'RE ON THE WINDWARD SIDE OR LEEWARD SIDE ... ...AND DROUGHT INTENSIFIES." But it's not all doom and gloom -- Gore says renewable energy is on the rise... with Hawaii being one of 10 states that's clean energy costs are getting cheaper than coal based. But a barrier Gore says the public needs to be aware of is those who profit from selling dirty energy. 9:53 - 10:12 "WHAT SOME OF THE LARGE CORPORATE... ... TRY TO FOOL PEOPLE. ...IT IS ALSO IMMORAL, UNETHICAL... AND WE NEED TO CALL THEM TO ACCOUNT FOR IT." Tonights event was put on by U-H's Sea Grant college program and senator Brian Shatz. It capped off a day long summit of energy and water sustainability.
