The attorney for a long-time youth soccer coach said on Wednesday that his client is a victim of an overzealous police department and prosecutor's office.

Fred Rames, 65, is accused of sexually assaulting two boys. He appeared in District Court on Wednesday morning. The father of four and foster parent has been out on bail since his arrest last week.

The two alleged victims are 7 and 12, according to police. He is charged with six counts of third-degree sexual assault.

Rames' attorney Bill Harrison said the prosecution has no case.

"This is the product of an overzealous detective and police department as well as a prosecutor's office. And I just wish they'd have done a better investigation prior to tainting this man's name," Harrison said.

Police said they discovered the abuse after the 7-year-old boy tested positive for venereal disease.

Harrison said the police themselves tested his client while he was in custody.

"He does not have any type of diseases whatsoever," Harrison said. "The doctors were present and looked at him and also his blood was tested. So, ask the detective why we're still here in this case."

A spokesman for the police department said he couldn't comment on Harrison's allegations.

The prosecutor's office told KITV that it is ethically bound not to talk about the facts and circumstances about the case.

"These types of crimes taint you and tar you forever, and even when we will -- and I say we will -- resolve this case favorably, he's still going to be tainted," Harrison said.
