Firefighters finally have a Maui brush fire under control after two days of battling the fast-moving blaze. The fire has charred over 3,500 acres of land since it began.

All roads around the scorched area opened after being closed Saturday night when the fire jumped Honoapiilani Highway, stranding tourists and residents there.

The fire began early Saturday along the Mauka side of the Hono’apiilani Highway, just north of the Ma’alaea Harbor.

The fire threatened Maui's windmill farm and forced the evacuation of Buzz's Wharf Restaurant and the Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea. Investigators have no word on the cause of the fire yet.
