DBEDT Sets Up Special Web Page

POSTED: 9:04 p.m. HST September 24, 2001

The state Department of Business Economic Development and Tourism has opened a special Web site to help Hawaii residents monitor the state of the visitor industry.

The Web site, at www.hawaii.gov/dbedt/special was set up under the direction of Gov. Ben Cayetano in response to the economic downturn caused by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The site provides daily arrival counts of overseas air passengers by tourists and residents from eastbound and westbound directions. It also contains daily and weekly statistics of unemployment claims.

"The data will show us on a daily basis how travel and tourism is recating to the crisis and how it is affecting jobs," DBEDT Director Seiji Naya said.
