Vacations Being Canceled In Droves
Attacks Have Residents Rethinking Travel

HONOLULU -- Agents at Regal Travel say that many people are calling to cancel trips and vacations they have scheduled for the next few weeks -- everything from Disneyland to Europe.
Travel agents say that callers are afraid of getting struck at airports across the country.
"Most people are nervous about going anywhere, even the neighbor islands," travel agent Lynda Bell says. "They are having a problem with dealing with security."
Bookings for the rest of the month are said to be "tight" as the airlines try to accommodate everyone who has been stranded this past week. But Bell says that, in general, everyone has been understanding with hotels and airlines, which have been waiving cancellation penalties.
But not everybody is changing their plans. People whose trips are scheduled months down the road see no need to cancel. Glenn Kakuni still plans on playing in a golf tournament in Las Vegas next month.
"I think it's going to be better," Kakuni said. "They will be stricter at the airport with passengers and luggage."
But even travel agents admit that a lot depends on what happens in the next few months --the travel picture could very quickly change.
