Man Sentenced To Prison For Assault

Jose Faces Life In Prison In Another Case

POSTED: 3:03 p.m. HST September 5, 2001

A man facing a life sentence for murdering an Army pilot was back in court Wednesday on an unrelated charge.

Prosecutors say on Sept. 10, 1997, Bryson Jose punched a co-owner of the Waianae Market in the face.

A jury agreed and convicted Jose of second-degree assault.

At his sentencing, Jose said he was not responsible for the crime. He also asked permission to sing a song, and then withdrew the request.

Judge Gail Nakatani sentenced Jose to five years in prison. He also faces a life term in federal prison for the murder of Army pilot John Latchum.
