HONOLULU -- Four rounds, including 36 holes on Sunday, were not enough to decide the U.S. Women's Open. Pat Hurst and Annika Sorenstam played an 18-hole playoff on Monday to decide the winner.

Sorenstam won her third U.S. Open title. It is her first since 1996. The win gave Sorenstam her 10th major victory.

Michelle Wie had to settle for another close call.

The 16-year-old from Hawaii was tied for the lead with six holes to play until failing to save par from a bunker on the 13th hole, then settling for pars the rest of the way. She closed with a 72 and finished alone in third.

She finished with a 72 to tie for third place with Se Ri Pak and Stacy Prammanasudh.

Wie said she's getting closer to winning one of the LPGA tournaments.

"I think my game feels very solid right now. I feel like my putting was very solid today. I made putts when I needed to, and I hit the fairway when I needed to. But obviously there were a couple of shots where I wish I could take back. But my game feels very solid right now," Wie said.

She has finished a combined five shots out of the lead in the first three majors this year.
