Hawaii Soldier Who Refused Deployment Is Reassigned

HONOLULU -- The mother of a Hawaii born soldier who is refusing orders to go to Iraq said her son has been reassigned to another unit.The Stryker Brigade that 1st Lt. Ehren Watada was assigned to began its deployment process to Iraq last week. Watada is the first commissioned officer to refuse to fight in Iraq.He is being confined to barracks at his base in Fort Lewis.Ehren has been reassigned to another unit while the military decides if it will take action against him, a spokesman for the Watada family said.Watada faces a possible court martial and jail time for his resistance to the war.Demonstrations are scheduled to be held in Hawaii and across the country in support of Watada's refusal to go to Iraq.
