Big Island police are advising drivers that starting on July 1, the Hawaii County Police Department will no longer generate a written police report for minor traffic and non-traffic accidents.

Police are classifying a minor accident as any accident having no injuries and less than $3,000 in damage.

Last year 65 percent of all crashes that officers responded to on the Big Island were minor crashes, police said.

Drivers will be responsible for contacting their insurance carriers if they are involved in an accident, according to Big Island police.
