A soldier who is refusing to deploy to Iraq with his unit has received death threats by e-mail, according to his father.

First Lt. Ehren Watada, a Hawaii Pacific University graduate, returned to his post at Fort Lewis after a press conference on Wednesday in Tacoma, Wash.

Watada said he objects to the war in Iraq. He said it is morally wrong and based on lies.

Watada's father, Bob, who is the former chairman of the state Campaign Spending Commision, said he spoke to his son on Thursday. Bob Watada called the environment on base "hostile" and recommended his son contact the FBI about the threats.
