For those of us feeling extra lucky, Power Play could be an option to increase our Powerball winnings.

Power Play is not a another game, but an enhancement to the game. For an extra $1, players can multiply their Powerball winnings by up to five times their original amount.

How It Works

During Powerball's Wednesday and Saturday drawings, lottery officials will select a Power Play number from a spinning wheel made of 12 slots numbered 1 through 5. (This is NOT the red ball that is selected.) There are two 1's, two 2's, two 3's, two 4's, and four 5's in the wheel.

If any of the players' numbers match the winning numbers and the Power Play was purchased, the set Powerball prize amount will be multiplied by the Power Play number.

For example, if you matched three numbers, you would win $7. But if you selected the Power Play option, and the Power Play number was 5, you would receive $35.

If the Powerplay number is 1, the prize amount does not increase.

If you had matched 5 white ball numbers, the prize would multiply to $500,000. All Powerball prize levels, except the jackpot, can be multiplied if the Power Play is purchased.

The approximate overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 35. Odds of multiplying original prize with Power Play is 1 in 1.2.
