Wife Of Slain Shooting Victim TestifiesWidow Recounts Day Her Husband DiedHONOLULU -- The widow of a man described as a "Good Samaritan" took the witness stand in Circuit Court Friday.
In emotional testimony, Joann Arado described watching her husband, Dino, being gunned down in front of his own home last Aug. 12. Joseph Poomaihealani is charged with second-degree murder for shooting Arado.
Joann Arado said that her husband had come home from golfing and asked about a commotion next door. She said that despite warnings from his mother to mind his own business, Arado went out to check.
"I went in the house and I heard his mom," Arado testifed. "He was out front and I heard a bang."
Prosecutors claim that Arado was a Good Samaritan coming to the aid of neighbor Brian Chamberlain, who was being attacked by Poomaihealani and Brandon Lizardo.
Poomaihealani's attorney doesn't dispute that his client fired the fatal shot. But he claims that Poomaihealani fired in self-defense to protect himself from Arado, who was carrying a golf club.
Arado's widow said on the witness stand that she never saw her husband act aggressively towards anybody.
Poomaihealani is also facing charges of assault and a firearms violation. Lizardo is facing assault and terroristic threatening charges.
The trial is scheduled to resume Monday. Copyright 2002 by TheHawaiiChannel.com All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. |
