Chaminade University Sued In Pregnancy Discrimination Case

POSTED: 5:18 pm HST March 7, 2006

A federal civil rights watchdog group is suing Chaminade University, accusing the school of discriminating against a woman because she was pregnant.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Chaminade offered Chie McGauphey a job, but then withdrew the offer after learning she was pregnant.

McGauphey's husband was deployed to Iraq at the time. The EEOC said it has been getting more complaints about pregnancy discrimination recently.

Chaminade denies it discriminated against McGauphey because of her pregnancy.
