Teams Hope To Trap Snake On Maui

HONOLULU -- Wildlife experts on Maui are setting traps to catch a snake that could be poisonous.The snake was first seen last week in Lahaina's Wahikuli Village.A man doing yard work got a good glimpse of the snake, according to officials. Based on the man's description, experts believe the 12- to 14-inch snake is venomous.Teams laid 25 traps baited with live mice and are conducting daily searches of the area.Anyone who sees the snake can call the state Pest Hotline at 643-PEST (7378) or Maui police. It is illegal to possess a snake in Hawaii.
