Missouri Visitor Killed In Kauai Crash

POSTED: 1:19 pm HST February 17, 2006

Alcohol may have been involved in a crash that killed a woman visiting from Missouri Thursday night, Kauai police said.

The woman was struck by a pickup truck while trying to cross Kuhio Highway. Fredrika Weisenthal, 66, was walking across the highway near Papaloa Road at about 7 p.m. when it happened.

A motorist slowed down when he saw Weisenthal crossing the road. A truck in the next lane struck the woman.

Paramedics treated Weisenthal and took her to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. They said it doesn't appear that the driver was speeding.
