Big Island Fire Scorches Industrial Area

POSTED: 4:39 pm HST February 6, 2006

High winds pushed a small, but ferocious brush fire in the Kawaihae Industrial Area through a number of businesses, according to officials.

A fish processing company was destroyed, fire officials said.

A representative for Hamakua Macadamia Nut Factory said the company's building was damaged in the fire. The company is shutting down operations for a few days.

Fire teams spent Monday monitoring hot spots and assessing the damage.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
