Two people are in extremely critical condition after a house fire in Salt Lake Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 6:15 a.m. at 5035 Likini St., injuring two 80-year-olds -- man and wife John and Nellie Takami.

Aaron Ching, who lives right across the street, saw what happened.

"I heard a loud boom and it woke me up," he said. "I looked out the window and saw a big, blazing fire."

Firefighters rescued them and treated them on-scene for respiratory problems due to smoke inhalation. They were then taken to Kaiser Hospital.
