Police Arrest Man For Allegedly Forcing Teen Into Prostitution

Police arrested a man and officers are looking for another, who forced a teenaged girl into prostitution, according to officials.

Officers tracked down one of the suspects just before midnight Monday at a hotel on Ala Moana Boulevard.

Police arrested Jason Smith on charges of sexual assault, kidnapping, promoting prostitution and possession of a stun gun.

The 15-year-old victim was being held against her will in a hotel room on Kuhio Avenue for two days before she was able to escape, police said.

A business owner on Kuhio Avenue said the area used to be crime-ridden, but has gotten better lately.

"I'm surprised it happened now. A few years ago, I would have said I wouldn't be surprised. Prostitution and even drugs were real bad in this area, but now we don't see it like we used to," Island Treasures Antique Mall owner Felix Navarro said.
