Police Arrest Man In Fatal Samurai Sword Attack

POSTED: 8:34 am HST December 2, 2005

Honolulu police arrested a 30-year-old man Thursday night in connection with a fatal stabbing that apparently included a samurai sword.

It happened at about 2 a.m. Thursday in front of Star Karaoke at the Waimalu Shopping Center, according to police.

The victim has been identified as Bill Refilong, 21. He was reportedly standing with friends on the sidewalk when a car pulled up and two men jumped out.

"There didn't seem to be any communication between anyone in the group and the two suspects. They just came out of the car walked right up to the victim and attacked him," police Lt. Bill Kato said.

Police arrested Frank Sanes in connection with the case.

Police said one attacker had a kitchen knife, the other a huge knife, some witnesses called it a samurai sword. The murder weapon has not been recovered, according to police.

Refilong suffered a stab wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at Pali Momi Medical Center, police said.
