The Honolulu City Council met in closed session Monday and voted on whether development should be allowed at Waimea Valley. However, no one will reveal the outcome until a committee report is released.

Speculation is that the City Council may have approved a plan for development at Waimea Valley. The area has been run by the Audubon Society for the past three years. In 2002, the city took control with plans to buy the park through condemnation.

An investor named Christian Wolffert is offering to sell Waimea for $5.2 million. In return, the city would allow him to develop homes on 1,500 acres at the back of the valley.

The City Council met in executive session behind closed doors on Monday. The City Council adjourned, legally prohibited from commented on how the vote went. The vote was reportedly contentious and close. The report could be released as early as Tuesday.
