It appears that an espionage suspect won't be allowed out on bail because a judge thinks a foreign country might help him escape from Maui.

Noshir Gowadia is charged with selling secrets of the B-2 stealth bomber he helped design.

His lawyers Thursday tried to get him bailed out pending trial. They offered to have him live in his Maui home under house arrest with electronic and GPS monitoring. He would have no computer or incoming calls and has hired a former senior FBI official to be his caretaker.

Judge Helen Gillmor pointed out that Gowadia carries most of his classified knowledge in his head and said a foreign country could help him flee Maui by land or sea.

The Gowadia family, lawyers and retired FBI executive Dan Coulsen left court without comment.
